- ➤ The Catawba Science Center announced on November 13 that Pancake, the resident groundhog, passed away peacefully. She served as an ambassador for her species since arriving on April 21st, 2020 (bringing joy to staff and visitors) and will be deeply missed (leaving lasting memories). WHKY
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Toyota unveiled its new battery plant today as a sign of progress and partnership—plant manager Don Stewart said about 95% of the 2,500 workers live within a 60- to 75-mile radius, with nearly half commuting from Guilford County. The News Herald
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ More than 1.6 million gallons of untreated wastewater spilled into Lyle Creek (about 1,795,271 gallons discharged) from a local water treatment plant on Thursday. Hickory Daily Record
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Yesterday, Frye Regional Medical Center in Heart earned the HeartCARE Center National Distinction of Excellence from the American College of Cardiology for the fifth straight year — it remains one of only three hospitals statewide and over 80 nationwide to meet the top standards in cardiovascular care. SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Head coach Nicole Barringer led the Lenoir-Rhyne volleyball team, which is ranked second in the first NCAA Southeast Regional Rankings, and the Bears will play their final regular season game today at 7:00 p.m. against Lincoln Memorial for senior day. WHKY
- ➤ The CVCC bass fishing team ended a busy fall season with tournaments at Kentucky Lake, Lake Dardanelle, Grand Lake and Lake Hartwell, where freshmen gained key experience while upperclassmen offered guidance. The team qualified for the national championship on Lake Murray in February and will compete as they build on their strong season — showing promising skill on the water. WHKY
- ➤ On November 12, the National Champion Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Triathlon team earned five CTCA All-American honors after winning their third national championship in Tempe—national champion Zoila Sicilia, runner-up Sabrina Fleig, and Claudia Teran-Romagosa received top honors. Coach Harley Mason led the team as they celebrated a strong performance that set them apart from the competition. WHKY
- ➤ The Lenoir-Rhyne women’s soccer team was ranked fifth in the latest NCAA Southeast Regional rankings—released November 12. The Bears held a 10-4-3 record and sought their sixth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance after a penalty kick loss to Wingate in the SAC Tournament. WHKY
