- ➤ Today, WHKY and Second Harvest Food Bank run a drive-thru food drop at the WHKY Studios at 526 Main Avenue SE in Hickory from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Travelin’ Tom’s Coffee Truck of Newton will serve beverages while turkeys and non-perishable items are collected to help local charities + the event is presented by local sponsors. - ➤ Due to a high chance of rain on November 25, Lighting Up Long View has been rescheduled to Tuesday, December 2 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Long View Recreation Center — residents can now look forward to enjoying holiday lights, music, Santa, train rides, carriage rides, and other safe activities. - ➤ AAA predicts that 2.3 million North Carolinians will travel over 50 miles from home for Thanksgiving from November 25 to December 1—marking a 2% increase and record high travel this season. The estimates include 2.1 million residents driving and nearly 146,000 flying, reflecting a continued rise in holiday travel. WHKY

- ➤ Hickory Public Library received a grant from the State Library of North Carolina to boost early literacy for children ages 0 to 5. The grant will update computer stations, expand reading kits at Patrick Beaver Memorial and Ridgeview Branch Libraries+ add new educational toys for hands-on learning. Go Foothills
- ➤ The Catawba County Board of Education approved a new member to fill a vacant seat — he said he has been community-oriented all his life and looks forward to serving the area. Hickory Daily Record

- ➤ Catawba Valley Medical Center received an A grade for patient safety this fall — its 18th A grade in Leapfrog’s last 19 reporting periods, showing its ongoing commitment to high standards. Hickory Daily Record
- ➤ North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services released A Statewide Call to Action to Reduce Cancer in North Carolina: 2025-2030 North Carolina Cancer Plan to guide efforts in lowering cancer risks and increasing early detection and treatment for cancers such as lung, female breast, prostate, colorectal, melanoma skin, and HPV-related cancers. The plan focuses on reducing disparities in underserved and rural communities and urges healthcare providers and local community members to follow its strategies to improve outcomes. Go Foothills
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Four players on the Lenoir-Rhyne women's soccer team were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team—Carola Busquets, Alexis Cagno, Ingrid Krakhellen, and Riley Miller met the academic and athletic standards, with Busquets now advancing as an Academic All-America finalist. The team is preparing for a regional championship battle next Sunday after earning 1-0 wins over Columbus State and North Georgia. WHKY
- ➤ The Lenoir-Rhyne men’s basketball team beat Johnson C. Smith 96—72 on Tuesday in front of nearly 1,500 fans including many local middle school kids, with key plays from Keyishon Miller and Conrad Luczynski. They improved their win streak to five and will travel to Harrogate for their next game on Friday. WHKY
- ➤ Lenoir-Rhyne men’s soccer placed five student-athletes on the College Sport Communicators Academic All District Team—honoring their achievements in both academics and athletics. Three players, including Garcia, Fontes, and Moos, will advance to the national ballot with final selections set for December 16. WHKY
- ➤ Head coach Nicole Barringer and the Lenoir-Rhyne volleyball team earned the second seed in the Southeast Regional and will face Lander at 1:30 p.m. on December 4th in the opening round—this marks their eighth NCAA Tournament appearance. The regional competition takes place at Wingate with additional games on December 5th and 6th, and the winner will advance to the NCAA National Quarterfinals. WHKY
- ➤ On November 25th, the Lenoir-Rhyne women’s basketball team won a 71-67 road game over USC Beaufort with a 64-47 lead after three quarters (Aaliyah El scored 28 points) as the Bears secured the win. They will open conference play Friday when they travel to Lincoln Memorial for a game with a 2:00 p.m. tipoff in Harrogate, Tennessee. WHKY
- ➤ Guillermo Garcia earned a spot on the D2CCA All-Southeast Region First team after starting all 17 games with the Bears and playing 1,545 minutes (the third most on the team), helping limit conference play to 10 goals and secure six shutouts while also being named SAC Offensive Player of the Week after the opener against Belmont Abbey on November 25. This achievement marks him as only the 21st player in team history to receive such an honor. WHKY
