  • Major Christopher Long, a member of the WHKY ownership group, retired after a distinguished military career; his retirement ceremony was held on Saturday, Dec. 6 (Charleston Air Force Base).  WHKY
  • Heritage Middle students are organizing gift and food drives to support local children and families (including those in foster care) as a small act of service. They say this community effort will make a positive difference for kids in need.  The News Herald

  • An auditor said Hickory City Schools are doing well compared to other districts (a CPA noted that rising costs will need close watching over the next couple of years).  Hickory Daily Record

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Renew NC reminds western homeowners that they have until Dec. 31 to apply for housing recovery assistance through its Single-Family Housing Program (assistance offered in English and Spanish) to rebuild homes after Hurricane Helene; application centers in Asheville, Boone, and Marion offer help.  WHKY
