  • Girl Scouts Carolinas Peaks to Piedmont introduces Exploremores, a rocky road ice cream inspired sandwich cookie for the 2026 cookie season. Booths will open in 40 counties across western and central areas on Jan. 16.  WHKY

  • Northview Middle student Aden Tran, who learned viola two years ago, was selected for the Western Piedmont Symphony Youth Orchestra and N.C. Music Educators Association’s Junior Western Regional All-State Honors Orchestra (an international music fest).  Hickory Daily Record

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The nonprofit that protects the Catawba River has named a new executive director to lead efforts in preserving the watershed. The new hire said (I believe deeply in the mission and am fully invested in the health and future of this watershed) as part of the organization’s drive to secure local water resources.  The News Herald

  • Coach Brent Owen was named national NCAA DII Coach of the Week by HoopDirt.com, marking his second consecutive weekly honor. The Bears improved to 8-2 + they will face UVA Wise on Saturday while riding an eight-game winning streak.  WHKY
