  • The Catawba County Library launches its Stronger by Design planning project to shape a new five-year plan and will gather public input through surveys and focus groups throughout January (a $25 Walmart gift card drawing is offered) as its current plan ends in 2026.  WHKY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The NCDOT launched the Holiday Booze It & Lose It campaign statewide on December 22 to step up checkpoints and patrols through January 4. Authorities aim to catch impaired drivers and reduce alcohol-related crashes from last year.  WHKY

HEALTH NEWS

  • Catawba Valley Medical Center is named a Top 100 Hospital for Patient Experience by the Women’s Choice Award for 2026—recognizing its quality care and patient service. The hospital also earned eight awards in areas like bariatric surgery and emergency care, showing its dedication to patients.  WHKY
