  • Hickory Creek Farm switched from tobacco to Christmas trees + now sells around 1,000 trees a year to give locals a taste of a nearby mountain experience without a long drive.  The News Herald
  • The Glen Alpine pharmacy, which has served the community for 87 years, will close on Tuesday, Jan. 6—drug owner Jeff Czarkowski confirmed the decision.  The News Herald

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The NC Department of Commerce released September jobless rates on December 24, 2025, showing lower unemployment in 98 of 100 counties; the Hickory Lenoir Morganton metro area dropped from 4% in August to 3.6%, while statewide unemployment fell from 4% to 3.7%.  WHKY
