- ➤ 40-year-old Michael Allen Bumgarner (of Robert Rufty Lane in Catawba) was arrested on August 2 by Catawba County Sheriff’s Officers and is charged with assault by strangulation, false imprisonment, breaking and entering with intent to terrorize or injure and assault on a female while he remains in the Catawba County Detention Facility with no bond and his District Court hearing is scheduled for today. - ➤ Tuesday's meeting will take place at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the Julian G. Whitener Municipal Building—councilors will consider a Purdue Pharma bankruptcy plan and Sackler settlement worth $8 billion for opioid funding, a 25 mph speed limit change on selected streets, an increased loan for the Henry Fork facility upgrade, and a rezoning petition for property on 7th Street SE.
